I am Dr Mónica Velarde Lazarte, founder of Socioanalytic Practice, previously TConsult Socioanalytic Practice. I am a socioanalyst, organisational consultant, psychologist and coach, based in Beaconsfield, UK.
How I think about the work
What I find beautiful about the socioanalytic way of thinking is that the unconscious is not only a source of difficulty. It can also hold possibilities for imagination and change. I try to develop ways of working that fit each setting and allow us to approach what may be hidden or hard to speak about, including fears and phantasies about change, alongside ideas that have not yet found a place.
Today I work with individuals, groups, communities and organisations, online and in person, in English, Spanish and French. For projects that call for different kinds of experience, I bring in consultants from an international network and shape the team around the people and setting.

From organisations to socioanalysis
I began my working life in finance. I then moved into consulting, first in telecommunications, energy and government, and later in education and health. An interest in corporate responsibility took me to the Peruvian Amazon, where, over seven years, questions about organisations became inseparable from questions about communities, the environment and the different ways people understand their lives together. That work became the subject of my doctoral research.
Over more than twenty years I have worked with organisations and communities across Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia and North America. Working across countries has taught me to pay attention to the people and place before deciding what a familiar method might offer.
Group Relations
I have directed and staffed Group Relations conferences and training events online and in person, including in Switzerland, Peru, Panama, South Africa, Denmark, France, the United States, the United Kingdom and India.
In the Peruvian Amazon, my work included adapting the Group Relations conference approach to the local context, working with communities whose experiences and ways of understanding collective life called for a different form of inquiry.
I developed The Territory with Dr Benedikt Hegner, a platform for online Group Relations work.
In 2027, I will be Director of the Training Subconference and Associate Director of the Conference in Shenzhen, China. I will also direct Group Relations conferences in New York and Geneva.
Therapy and clinical experience
I am a psychologist registered with the Colegio de Psicólogos del Perú. My therapeutic work has a psychoanalytic orientation. I work with adults, including people navigating life transitions or difficulties related to fertility.
I previously worked as a psychologist within the Équipe mobile OEJ–HUG, a joint team of Geneva’s Office de l’enfance et de la jeunesse and the Hôpitaux universitaires de Genève. The team supports the networks of professionals caring for children and adolescents with complex psychosocial difficulties, particularly when existing care arrangements are under strain. Its work includes supporting professionals in residential settings and foster-care networks, and helping the educational, social-care and mental-health services involved work together around a young person’s needs.
I am now the supervisor of the Équipe mobile OEJ–HUG.
